LG E900 Optimus 7
By H.L.
WARNING AT&T Subscribers:
This phone is indeed unlocked, text and voice will work out of the box.
BUT 3G data will not work, in US, until you “Hack” it using the LG engineering utility to set it to the correct network.
Also it took me over a week of charge and discharge cycles before the battery was conditioned enough to hold a charge for more than 1 day.
Don’t be alarmed if after the first charge it only lasts for 8 hrs.
Steps I preform to get 3G data to work (no thanks to the seller – useless. I was seriously about to return it to them and open a claim).
1. Enable wifi connection and connect to a router, make sure you can browse the web.
2. Go to the phone menu and dial ##634# and press call button
3. Wait few sec until 3min during the MFG application installation
4. In the main applications list menu look for and run MFG and enter the password: 277634#*# and press enter
5. Click 7 for Engineer Settings.
6. Then click 6 for Other Settings.
7. Select Set Network Profiles.
8. Find “_PROV_ATT_US_310_410.xml”
9. Select that one. Back out of the menus and reboot the LG Optimus 7. It will now even say ATT in the marketplace.
Pros:
- Great build quality.
- Nice display
- Great Value vs similar devices
- UI is very user friendly, great experience.
- Great reception.
- 3G+ compatible, I was able to get 3500KBPS download.
- Supports Netflix streaming over 3G!
- Voice commands and search work great. (i.e. “Dial Bob Mobile” will dial Bob’s mobile number in your phonebook)
Cons:
- Battery only lasts about 2 days with active calling and data.
- Windows Phone 7 market place has not yet matured. Not many of the apps you are used too in other platforms are there.
- I hate the zune syncing software. Not very easy and is very buggy.
- Can’t hear the ringtones when in a pocket or purse.
- Ringtones are not customizable.
- Outlook can only sync with GOOGLE calendars or an exchange server. No longer supports Active sync!
Overall, I’m happy with the phone and would buy again over other platforms.

Best WP7 phone
By Dan
I spent a lot of time looking at the different WP7 phones out there before taking the jump, and I’m really happy that I chose this one. The phone has a solid, sleek build about it that makes it stand out from the other wp7 phones — in particular the other phone that had caught my attention was the Samsung Focus, but it had a cheap, plasticky feel that made me lean towards the Optimus 7. I think the 3.8″ screen is just the right size and it feels very good in the hand. The screen is NOT AMOLED, but on putting this phone side-by-side with the Focus I actually preferred the colours on the Optimus 7, with the one downside being that the black on the Focus was darker.
I was very impressed by the WP7 UI which is very sleek and very user-friendly, and is a step above the iOS and Android at least in terms of look and feel. There are some downsides: it’s somewhat difficult to search the marketplace for specific apps directly on the phone (I prefer to do that on the Zune on the PC; the NoDo update later this month is supposed to fix this), and there are fewer apps out there than for the other two platforms. An omission was that from the settings panel the phone’s MAC address wasn’t listed and I had to do a web search to uncover a hidden engineering panel from which this could be retrieved (so that I could put the phone on my university wifi).
Also LG gives users 60-days of free app downloads from the LG store and they do have some good apps, so that was definitely a bonus. The camera itself was solid but there’s not particularly many settings and it’s a bit grainy indoors.
This LG phone was very nice for me and I recommend it to others. I found the review at endgadget particularly good:

Great phone!
By Daniel Castillo
Great phone at a terrific price. I spent a lot of time checking which phone to get and this one has the very same specs as many others out there but at portion of the price. Out of the box it does much more than I do. Plus you’ll get some free LG apps and many other more at the market place.
Now in a few months when the new OS version will be release we will have more great stuff for the device.
Way to go LG/Windows Phone!
